Shopify Plus

A substantial monthly commitment that earns itself above a certain volume or where checkout control is commercially necessary. Below that, it is an expensive subscription for features you will not use.

Shopify Plus adds checkout extensibility, B2B, multi-store and Functions to the standard platform. The Nexclick builds on it where the volume or the checkout control genuinely justifies the subscription, and will tell you when standard Shopify would serve you at a fraction of the cost.

Is this you?

What usually prompts the call

  • You need checkout customisation that standard Shopify will not permit.
  • You sell B2B and consumer from the same catalogue with different pricing.
  • You run several storefronts — territories, brands or languages — and manage them separately.
  • Your transaction volume means Plus transaction rates would save more than the subscription costs.

What we do

The actual deliverables

Things that appear on an invoice, not adjectives.

Establish whether Plus is justified
On your actual volume, transaction fees and requirements. The subscription is significant, and for many stores standard Shopify plus a well-built theme is the better answer.
Checkout extensibility
Checkout UI extensions, custom fields, validation and branding — the main functional reason to be on Plus rather than standard.
Shopify Functions
Custom discount, shipping and payment logic running server-side. Replaces the fragile script-and-app arrangements stores use to approximate it.
B2B configuration
Company accounts, price lists, payment terms and quantity rules, using native B2B rather than a plugin approximating it.
Multi-store architecture
Several storefronts sharing catalogue and operations, with a considered position on what is shared and what is genuinely local.
Enterprise integrations
ERP, PIM, warehouse and accounting connections built with reconciliation, since Plus stores usually sit in a wider system landscape.
Migration onto Plus
From standard Shopify or another platform, with the checkout, apps and integrations reworked rather than carried over unchanged.

Decision tree

Is Shopify Plus worth it for you?

Plus is a substantial annual commitment. Work through these before upgrading — several branches conclude that standard Shopify does what you need for a fraction of the cost.

  1. 01Your monthly revenue makes the reduced transaction rate exceed the subscription

Yes, on arithmetic alone. Model it against your actual volume — it is a calculation rather than a judgement, and it is the clearest case for Plus.

  2. 02You need to add fields, validation or logic to the checkout

Yes. Checkout extensibility is the main functional reason for Plus and standard Shopify genuinely will not do it.

  3. 03You sell B2B with company accounts, price lists and payment terms

Yes. Native B2B is Plus-only and far more robust than the app-based approximations available on standard.

  4. 04You run several storefronts for territories or brands

Probably. Plus includes multiple storefronts on one subscription, which usually beats several standard subscriptions.

  5. 05You want it for the dedicated support and account management

Weak reason on its own. Useful, and not worth the subscription unless something else on this list also applies.

  6. 06An agency has recommended Plus without modelling your numbers

Ask them to model it. Plus builds are larger projects, which creates an incentive worth being aware of. The arithmetic should come before the recommendation.

  7. 07None of the above and your store is straightforward retail

Standard Shopify with a well-built theme. You will spend a fraction and get the same customer experience.

How it works

Step by step, with timeframes

Timeframes are typical rather than guaranteed, and they assume we get account access and approvals when we ask.

  1. 01Week 1–2

    Justify the platform

Volume, fees and requirements against the subscription. An honest gate — we have advised against Plus more than once.

  2. 02Week 2–4

    Architecture

Store structure, checkout approach, B2B model and integration design decided before building.

  3. 03Week 4–14

    Build

Theme, checkout extensions, Functions and integrations, in a duplicated theme with staged review.

  4. 04Week 14–17

    Test and launch

Full order testing including B2B terms, refunds and partial fulfilment, then launch with close monitoring.

What you get

Reporting and ownership

  • A written justification of Plus against your actual volume and fees, before committing.
  • Checkout logic in Functions rather than fragile scripts and stacked apps.
  • Native B2B configuration rather than a plugin approximation of it.
  • Integration documentation covering reconciliation and failure paths.
  • The theme version-controlled in your repository, not edited live.

Timeline

How long this actually takes

Fourteen to seventeen weeks for a substantial Plus build, including integrations. The justification stage matters more than the rest: Plus is a significant annual commitment and the honest answer for many stores is that standard Shopify with a well-built theme does everything they need. The cases where Plus genuinely pays are high transaction volume, where the reduced rate offsets the subscription, and businesses where checkout control or native B2B is commercially necessary rather than desirable.

Questions

Shopify Plus questions

At what revenue does Plus start paying for itself?

It depends on your transaction rate and volume, so it is a calculation rather than a threshold anyone should quote generically. Model your actual monthly transaction fees on standard against the Plus rate plus subscription. Where the difference is negative, the other features have to justify it on their own.

What can we do at checkout on Plus that we cannot on standard?

Add custom fields, apply your own validation, change the layout and branding, and run server-side logic through Functions. Standard Shopify permits only limited branding changes. If checkout control is genuinely a commercial requirement, this is the whole argument.

Are Shopify Scripts still the way to customise logic?

Functions have superseded Scripts for discount, shipping and payment customisation. They are more capable and run in a different way. If you are on Plus with legacy Scripts, migrating to Functions is worth planning rather than deferring indefinitely.

How does Shopify B2B compare to a plugin approach?

Considerably more robust. Company accounts, per-customer price lists, payment terms and quantity rules are native rather than layered on. Businesses running B2B through apps on standard Shopify usually find the app arrangement is the constraint, not the platform.

Can we run several stores on one Plus subscription?

Yes, which is frequently the economic argument. Multiple storefronts for territories, brands or languages under one subscription usually costs less than several standard subscriptions and is easier to operate.

What happens if we downgrade from Plus later?

Checkout extensions, Functions and B2B features stop working, and anything depending on them needs replacing. That is worth understanding before building deeply on Plus-only capability — the upgrade is easy and the downgrade is a project.
