Search Engine Optimisation
Answer Engine Optimisation
This targets conventional search results. Being cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity is generative engine optimisation, and it is a separate service with different mechanics.
Answer engine optimisation wins the positions above the organic results: featured snippets, People Also Ask and voice answers. The Nexclick restructures pages so the answer arrives in the first sixty words, formatted as the list, table or definition the snippet type requires.
Is this you?
What usually prompts the call
- You rank third and a competitor at position five owns the answer box above you.
- Your pages answer questions well but bury the answer under four paragraphs of context.
- People Also Ask boxes appear for your topics and none of the entries are yours.
- You want visibility on voice queries and have no idea how those results are chosen.
What we do
The actual deliverables
Things that appear on an invoice, not adjectives.
- Snippet opportunity identification
- Queries where you already rank in the top ten and someone else holds the snippet. These are the realistic targets, because Google draws snippets almost exclusively from page-one results.
- Snippet type matching
- Paragraph, list, table or video — each query returns a specific type, and the page has to be formatted as that type. Answering a list query in prose loses regardless of quality.
- Answer-first restructuring
- A direct 40–60 word answer immediately under the heading, before context or caveats. This is a formatting change more than a writing one, and it is the highest-leverage item here.
- Question-heading architecture
- Sub-questions as H2s and H3s phrased exactly as people ask them, each followed immediately by its answer. This is what feeds People Also Ask entries.
- Table and list formatting
- Genuine HTML tables and lists rather than styled divs. Extraction depends on the markup being what it claims to be.
- FAQ and HowTo schema where it applies
- Implemented only where the content is genuinely on the page and the schema is still eligible. Google has narrowed rich result eligibility repeatedly, and we will tell you where it no longer earns anything.
- Voice-oriented phrasing
- Voice answers are read aloud, so they favour concise, complete sentences that make sense without a screen. Usually the same work as snippet optimisation, judged by ear.
Comparison
Match the format to the snippet type
Google selects a snippet format based on the query, and a page formatted the wrong way cannot win regardless of how good the content is. Check what currently appears for your target query, then format to match.
| Query pattern | Snippet type | How to format the page |
|---|---|---|
| "what is…", "why does…" | Paragraph | 40–60 word direct answer immediately under an H2 phrased as the question |
| "how to…", "steps to…" | Numbered list | Ordered HTML list, short imperative steps, no prose between them |
| "best…", "types of…" | Bulleted list | Unordered list with concise items; put the list before the discussion |
| "X vs Y", "compare…" | Table | Real HTML table with a clear header row and short cell values |
| "how much does… cost" | Paragraph or table | State a figure or range in the first sentence; a range beats a refusal |
| "when should…" | Paragraph | Lead with the timing, then the reasoning |
| "can I…", "do I need…" | Paragraph | Answer yes or no in the first three words, then qualify |
| Any query returning a video snippet | Video | A page cannot win this; produce video or target a different query |
| Any query with an AI Overview above | Often none | Snippet may be suppressed entirely — target citation instead |
How it works
Step by step, with timeframes
Timeframes are typical rather than guaranteed, and they assume we get account access and approvals when we ask.
- 01Week 1
Find the opportunities
Search Console queries cross-referenced against SERP feature data, filtered to where you already rank on page one and do not hold the feature.
- 02Week 2–4
Classify and restructure
Each target page reformatted to match the snippet type the query returns, in batches so movement can be attributed.
- 03Week 4–10
Deploy and monitor
Snippet ownership tracked per query. Ownership changes frequently and often reverts, so this is monitored rather than declared won.
- 04Ongoing
Iterate on losses
Where a competitor takes it back, the format is compared and adjusted. This is an iterative discipline, not a one-off change.
What you get
Reporting and ownership
- A target list of queries where you already rank and the snippet is winnable.
- Snippet ownership tracked per query, month on month, including losses.
- Rewritten answer blocks supplied as copy you own and can reuse elsewhere.
- An honest note on which queries are not worth pursuing, and why.
- A written format guide so your team can structure new pages correctly first time.
Tools and platforms

Timeline
How long this actually takes
Restructuring takes two to four weeks. Snippet ownership can change within days of a recrawl, which makes this one of the faster disciplines in search — and also one of the least stable, because ownership frequently reverts without any change on your side. Expect to win some, lose some back, and treat it as an ongoing position rather than a completed project. One caveat worth stating plainly: winning a snippet does not always increase clicks. For a query the snippet fully answers, you may gain visibility and lose traffic. We will tell you which of your targets carry that risk before doing the work.
Pricing model
Project, then retainer
A defined batch of pages is a fixed-price project. Ongoing monitoring and iteration sits within an SEO retainer.
Questions
Answer Engine Optimisation questions
Can we win a snippet without ranking on page one?
Very rarely. Google draws featured snippets almost exclusively from results already in the top ten, and most commonly from positions one to five. If you are on page two, the snippet is not your first problem — ranking is, and formatting the page for extraction will not shortcut that.
Does winning a featured snippet increase traffic?
Not always, and this is worth understanding before commissioning the work. For queries the snippet fully answers, click-through can fall even as visibility rises. Snippets are most valuable on queries where the answer prompts a follow-up action. We flag which of your targets carry the risk.
Is FAQ schema still worth adding?
Its rich result eligibility has been substantially narrowed since 2023 and now applies mainly to government and health sites. It remains useful as a structural signal and for AI extraction, and it is no longer a reliable route to visible rich results. We will not present it as one.
How do we get into People Also Ask?
Structure sub-questions as headings phrased the way people actually ask them, with the answer immediately below in two or three sentences. PAA entries are drawn from a much wider pool than featured snippets, so ranking requirements are looser and the opportunity is larger.
Do AI Overviews replace featured snippets?
They increasingly appear above or instead of them on informational queries. Where an AI Overview appears, the featured snippet is often suppressed entirely, and the opportunity shifts from owning the box to being cited within the overview. That is generative engine optimisation, which we run as a separate service.
How stable is snippet ownership?
Not very. Ownership changes frequently, sometimes weekly, and can revert without anything changing on your side. Treat it as a position to hold rather than a result to bank, and judge the work on how many you own across a set of queries rather than on any single one.
