Paid Advertising
Local Services Ads
Pay per lead, above everything else on the page, with a green tick. The catch is that you are billed for wrong numbers unless somebody disputes them.
Local Services Ads put verified trades and professional services above the normal Google results, charging per lead rather than per click. The Nexclick handles verification, keeps the profile competitive, and disputes the leads that should never have been billed — which is where the recoverable money sits.
Is this you?
What usually prompts the call
- You are billed for leads that were wrong numbers or outside your service area.
- Verification has lapsed or stalled and the profile is not showing.
- Nobody answers LSA messages quickly and the ranking has drifted downwards.
- You cannot say whether LSA or standard Google Ads produces more customers.
What we do
The actual deliverables
Things that appear on an invoice, not adjectives.
- Get through verification and keep it current
- Licence checks, insurance documents, background checks and business registration. Administrative rather than clever, it lapses without warning, and a lapsed profile simply stops appearing at all.
- Dispute every lead that should not have been billed
- Wrong numbers, spam, out-of-area enquiries, services you do not offer. A meaningful share of a typical LSA bill is disputable, the window to do it is short, and most advertisers never dispute anything.
- Manage responsiveness, because ranking depends on it
- Answer rate and response time are direct ranking factors here in a way they are not in ordinary Google Ads. A missed call costs you the job and your position at the same time.
- Generate reviews through the LSA system specifically
- Google Business Profile reviews do not all carry across. Local Services has its own review flow, and it is that flow which feeds Local Services ranking.
- Set service areas and job types precisely
- Broad settings generate leads you will later have to dispute. Narrowing them at setup is considerably cheaper than reclaiming the money afterwards, one lead at a time.
- Match budget to actual capacity
- Weekly budget set against how many jobs you can genuinely take. Local Services will happily deliver leads you cannot service, and unanswered leads damage the ranking as well as the reputation.
- Run it alongside standard Google Ads, not instead
- They occupy different positions on the page and can both appear for the same search. Which produces cheaper customers is measurable, and the answer varies by trade and by area.
- Report on cost per booked job
- Rather than cost per lead. Local Services bills per lead including the ones that were never real, so the only meaningful number is what a booked job actually cost you.
Checklist
Which Local Services leads you should dispute
Google bills per lead, including a fair number that were never leads at all. Everything below is disputable, the window is short, and most businesses running Local Services have never disputed a single one.
- 01A wrong number, or somebody who clearly meant a different business.
- 02A sales or marketing call that came through the advert.
- 03An address outside the service area you set.
- 04A request for a service you do not offer and never listed.
- 05A job type you explicitly excluded in your settings.
- 06A message with no contact details and no way to respond.
- 07A duplicate of a lead you were already billed for.
- 08Somebody booking with a competitor who reached you by mistake.
- 09A call that never connected because of a technical failure.
- 10A price-only enquiry for work you do not quote on.
- 11A recruitment enquiry from somebody looking for a job.
- 12A lead arriving outside the hours you set as open.
- 13A test call from your own team or from your agency.
- 14Anything where you can evidence the lead was not genuine.
How it works
Step by step, with timeframes
Timeframes are typical rather than guaranteed, and they assume we get account access and approvals when we ask.
- 01Week 1–3
Eligibility and verification
Documents assembled and submitted. The slowest stage and entirely outside anybody’s control once filed, so it starts on day one.
- 02Week 3–4
Profile and settings build
Services, job types, service areas, hours and a weekly budget matched to the capacity you actually have.
- 03Ongoing, weekly
Live, with dispute discipline
Leads reviewed weekly and disputed inside the window where valid, with the reason recorded so patterns become visible over time.
- 04Monthly
Optimise on booked jobs
Response times, review generation, service area refinement, and a running comparison against standard Google Ads on cost per customer.
What you get
Reporting and ownership
- Verification completed and then monitored, so the profile does not silently lapse.
- Every billable lead reviewed weekly and disputed inside the window where valid.
- Service areas and job types set narrowly enough to reduce disputes at source.
- Response time and answer rate monitored, because both feed the ranking directly.
- Reporting on cost per booked job rather than cost per lead.

Timeline
How long this actually takes
One to three weeks live once verification clears, and verification is the unpredictable part — background and licence checks take days or weeks and nobody can accelerate them. Two honest notes. Local Services exists only for certain categories, largely trades, home services and some professional services, and if yours is not eligible no amount of setup changes that. And it is genuinely demanding operationally: response time and answer rate feed the ranking, so a business that misses calls slides down regardless of budget. If you cannot answer the phone reliably during your stated hours, standard Google Ads is the better fit, because it does not punish you twice for the same missed call.

Questions
Local Services Ads questions
How does Local Services Ads billing work?
You are charged per lead — a call, message or booking — rather than per click, with a weekly budget cap. The important consequence is that you pay for leads that were never real unless somebody disputes them, which is why the weekly dispute review is the substance of managing this channel.
How long does Google Guaranteed verification take?
Anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on licence and background check turnaround. It is entirely outside anybody’s control once filed, which is why documents are assembled on day one. It also lapses if insurance or licences expire, and nothing warns you loudly.
Can we run Local Services and standard Google Ads together?
Yes, and you generally should. They occupy different positions and both can appear on the same search. Running both and comparing cost per booked job is the only way to find out which is cheaper for your trade in your area, and the answer genuinely varies.
What affects our position in Local Services Ads?
Proximity, review score and volume through the Local Services system, responsiveness, your answer rate, and whether you are verified and in good standing. Responsiveness is the one advertisers underestimate — missed calls lower your position as well as losing you the job.
How many leads can we realistically dispute?
It varies by trade and by how tightly the settings were configured, but on an unmanaged account it is rarely trivial. The point is less the proportion than the discipline: disputes have a short window, and a lead nobody reviewed within it is simply paid for.
Do our Google Business Profile reviews count for Local Services?
Not all of them, and not automatically. Local Services has its own review request flow, and reviews collected through it are what feed the Local Services ranking. Businesses with excellent Business Profile ratings are frequently surprised to find their Local Services profile showing very few.
What happens if we cannot answer the phone?
You are penalised twice — you lose the job, and your answer rate falls, which lowers your position and reduces future leads. This channel is unusually unforgiving of poor call handling, and it is the main reason we sometimes recommend standard Google Ads instead.
